A major steel manufacturer needed an innovative road barrier designed made and installed. Innovation was required as the barrier was to be installed in a location where there were height restrictions and the dimensions of the area meant a conventional barrier was unsuitable, needing a cranked arm barrier which folded to the side to maximise headroom in a confined space. Added to this, the barrier had to be fitted under a crane gantry.
The challenge was to design a barrier folding as shown in the picture above. Due to the high volume of traffic using this plant, it was decided to base the design on an established medium duty barrier, resulting in a cost effective cranked arm design which included a modified program for the controller. The concept was agreed with the client’s project team and we duly manufactured a bespoke solution to the satisfaction of our client, whilst keeping within time and budget constraints. Such has been the success of this project that it has resulted in a repeat order for the same site and, through word of mouth, has led to further orders from other projects.

A solar powered solution was needed for rapid deployment and access control for a number of construction sites and for projects needing secure access but where electrical power to the entrance was not available. An integrated solution was found using a proven fence line turnstile powered by solar panels and using proximity cards.
This design concept enables the delivery of the turnstile inclusive of a freestanding galvanised tread plate to which it is permanently fixed, so it can be placed on a flat level surface and is ready to use. This eliminates the normal building site infra structure costs associated with installing turnstiles on the fence-line: no mains electricity!
It has the added advantage of flexibility enabling the rapid redeployment of turnstiles if for any reason the fence line entrance needs moving during the project. Simply lift on a fork lift and relocate.
Incorporated into the solution is a standby battery and solar panel combination designed for unlimited use in normal British weather. The trickle charge from the solar panel should keep the battery topped up. If needed, the battery can be charged quickly from a 240V AC supply. The product is ready to use straight out of storage.
